Words by The Parlour RoomWhether it’s a birthday, wedding or one of the biggest events scheduled on the fashion week calendar, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to looking and feeling your best as you walk out that door.
Here at The Parlour Room, we’re huge believers that beauty shines from within, feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin. So in the lead up to fashion week this year, we wanted to find out exactly what the non-negotiables the fashion front-rowers swear by in order to look and feel their best when it comes to all things beauty, skincare and wellness.
First, we chat with the best friends and creative powerhouse duo, Jordan Turner and Violet Grace. They’re the local Sydneysiders producing jaw-dropping content on the reg and all eyes will be on them this fashion week as they sport some of the most coveted pieces of the season. No stranger to juggling a calendar full of events, they know how to nail the pre-event prep and understand the importance of not only looking your best but feeling your best too.
Here’s how they do it…
Jordan: We all have different interpretations and expectations of beauty and that’s what makes AAFW so exciting! The next major trend could be on the next runway. When it comes to my interpretation of beauty, I often think that anything can be beautiful, but it’s how something makes you feel which is what counts. Although Blair Archibald’s Menswear line makes me feel like I can conquer the world, tea is the one thing that makes me feel damn beautiful. My tea of choice is the incredible and healing blends, that are all created with intention, from Apotheca by Anthia.
Violet: For me, beauty-wise when it comes to fashion week one of the most important elements is having a really good base. Spending time on the foundation element in the morning to ensure it is as glassy and skin-like as possible so that it looks good in real life and in street-style photos is really important. Then from there if changing looks throughout the day I tend to just change lip colour and that is it. My handbag essentials are my Tom Ford fragrance (at the moment I am obsessed with Bitter Peach) and then a cream highlighter/blush which I top up on throughout the day if needed to add some glow.
Jordan: A good skincare regime is my perfect self-care prescription – and something that will be a necessity to wind down from the buzz of fashion week. Once out of the shower, I’ll spray my Avene Thermal Spring Water and proceed with my favourite cleanser (Heartfelt), serum (Glam Squad), eye cream (Eye Do) and moisturiser (Power Broker) from Liberty Belle Rx. I’m relaxed just thinking about it.
Violet: My current favourite skincare regime is from Liberty Belle Rx – a Melbourne based brand that I have been using for the past 2 years. In the morning I use a hyaluronic serum, vitamin C (complexion gel), anti-pollution moisturiser, SPF and eyecream. Then in the evenings I use retinol, eye cream and a heavier moisturiser. Every few days I also use a leave-on gel exfoliator. Other products I love include the Estee Lauder Powerfoil ANR sheet masks and an Aesop clay mask – to name a few! I could go on for hours though haha – skincare obsessed.
When it comes to professional treatments – I cannot go past the Fire and Ice facial at Self by The Parlour Room. It is insane for a glow. If I want something a little more relaxing then the Signature Facial is my favourite.
Jordan: Between producing creative content and running our independent Bookstore, my days are filled to the brim. With AAFW approaching I know that my spare time will be circling the drain. My non-negotiable for my mental health is having me-time. Time where I can do something that I want to do, so I can switch off from thinking and remind myself to enjoy small moments in life. How I feel rules my life so ensuring I have this balance is a fashion week must for me.
Violet: I notice a huge difference in my mental state when I don’t eat well. If I get busy I tend to eat because I have to instead of viewing it as a way of getting nutrients – so I am constantly trying to train myself to go for nutrient-rich food. My mental state is most affected by a poor diet which then causes me to feel bad about my physical state. Other non-negotiables for me include the routine of wearing makeup/fresh hair/a good outfit. It seriously makes or breaks my day so I just don’t slack off on that stuff because I know it’s not going to make me feel my best. I saw something funny recently which was that if you get hit by a bus tomorrow, THAT is the outfit you are wearing in heaven forever.
