3 DIY Face Masks Made From Pantry Staples

Whether you use sheets or clay, have a favourite brand, or make your own, face masks are a great addition to your skincare routine.

Making your own face mask is easy. They don’t take long and you’d be surprised how many of the ingredients you already have at home. You can mix almost any pantry staple to make a face mask; fruit, eggs, cooking spices, oil. Where many of these ingredients own natural properties do wonders for the skin, from increased hydration, reduced pores, and soothing inflammation, there’s a mask for every occasion.

For best results, a face mask should be used at least once a week. Of course, this is only a guide and largely depends on your individual skin type and what you’re hoping to achieve. If you’re just looking for a bit of extra hydration though, feel free to increase the frequency.

1. SMOOTH OPERATOR

Perfect for: tightening and smoothing the skin and evening out your complexion.

Ingredients:

  • Egg whites

  • Oats

  • Honey

  • Lemon juice

This is a great allrounder if you’re not sure where to start. The honey’s anti-inflammatory properties and the Vitamin C within the lemon juice work together in evening out your complexion. Combined with the light exfoliant of the oats and protein of the egg whites, which helps strengthen (and tighten) the skin, your face will be looking soft and supple in no time.

2. KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

Perfect for: reducing inflammation, calming any breakouts and rejuvenating your skin.

Ingredients:

  • Turmeric

  • Honey

Turmeric is well-known for its natural anti-inflammatory properties. Most commonly digested, it also works really well when applied to the face. Especially when combined with honey, which is also known to have anti-bacterial properties and increase your skin cell turnover, which can help reduce any breakouts. It’s the perfect combination to calm your inflamed skin.

3. THE EXFOLIATOR

Perfect for: smooth, softer looking skin.

Ingredients:

  • Brown sugar

  • coconut oil

We all know the power and importance of a good exfoliator. Removing dead skin cells is a must in any skincare routine. The smooth consistency of coconut oil provides the perfect applicator, and when mixed with brown sugar - a gentle grit - you’re not only exfoliating your skin but hydrating it at the same time.
