How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

WHY YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES

Cleaning your makeup brushes helps maintain healthy, glowing skin by preventing any build-up of product and bacteria, which if left for too long, can lead to blemishes and breakouts on your skin. Regularly cleaning your brushes also helps them last longer.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES

Depending on how often you wear makeup and how often you use your brushes, you should be spot cleaning at least once a week, and deep cleansing each month.

WHAT CAN YOU USE TO CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES?

You can use almost any cleaning agent to clean your makeup brushes. From baby shampoo, regular unscented house soap, dishwashing liquid, and olive oil. There are a lot of household pantry items you can use to clean your makeup brushes.

HOW TO DEEP CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES:

What you will need:

  • Shampoo

  • Small jar

  • Small towel

STEP 1: MIX YOUR SHAMPOO IN A JAR OF WARM WATER

If some of your brushes have any waterproof liner or oily based products remaining, mix in a little bit of olive oil in with your shampoo.

STEP 2: PLACE YOUR BRUSHES IN THE JAR AND LET THEM SOAK

Don’t submerge the entire brush, only the bristle. If you do, you run the risk of the water getting into the farrel of the brush where the hairs are glued together, and over time they can come unstuck and fall out.

STEP 3: WASH THE BRUSHES

Take one brush at a time and gently wash the brush against the brush cleansing palette in a circular motion.

STEP 4: RINSE THE BRUSH UNDER WARM RUNNING WATER

If you have a thin comb, you can brush them or use your fingers to squeeze out the excess water.

STEP 5: LAY THEM OUT TO DRY

Fold the towel up on one side so the brushes can lay on an angle and the water can drain.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR BEAUTY BLENDER

Beauty blenders are used to blend, so unsurprisingly they will pick up a lot of product along the way. Keeping them clean and regularly cleaning them, will ensure smooth lines and an even blend for all future use.

What you will need:

  • Soap

  • water

STEP 1: APPLY SOAP TO BEAUTY BLENDER

Gently apply soap to the beauty blender and lightly rub all over.

STEP 2: RINSE UNDER RUNNING WATER

Under running water, gently continue to wash the beauty blender, squeezing the excess water as you go.

STEP 3: REPEAT UNTIL CLEAN

You may need to repeat a few times to remove all the left over product.
