Words by The Parlour Room‘It’s winter, do I really need to wear sunsceen?’ It’s one of the questions we hear a lot when the weather starts to cool. You can’t feel the suns rays beating down on your skin and you
Why do we need to wear SPF in winter?
Even though the temperature drops, UVA and UVB rays are still there to damage your skin…your skin needs protection from the sun.
Why is it important we wear SPF in winter?
Same as above really, to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays…its the best anti ageing product you can use
But it’s cloudy…why do I need to wear SPF?
UVA and UVB rays are still there even though you can’t physically see the sun out. Everyones been there and been burnt on a cloudy day, when you thought you would be safe, YOU’RE NEVER SAFE!!!!
Should you wear a different SPF in winter vs Summer?
You don’t really have to but some people like to use a lighter fluid SPF during the summer incase they gets a bit shinier so make up sits better, and a thicker more nourishing SPF in winter to lock in hydration
Can you get away with a BB SPF 15 cream in winter?
We always recommend an SPF 30, preferably a 50 every day. If you have a BB cream you love then just apply it over the top, and think of it more as a make-up product then a skincare product. The lower SPF means you have a shorter time that you are protected from the sun, so a higher SPF means you are protected for longer. You should use 1 teaspoon (or 4 finger lengths) of SPF for face neck and chest for adequate sun protection, using that much BB cream might be a bit too much of the tinted product, so applying it on the top like a make-up is better.
Just ignore any make-up product that says it has an SPF in it, you still need to apply it underneath as make-up isn’t going to give you proper protection with the amounts you use!
