How To Achieve Glowing Skin With Just Three Products

19 November 2024

Words by The Parlour Room

One of the most common skincare questions any therapist receives is ‘how do I get glowing skin’ and although they’ll tell you there’s no miracle solution, they will, however, recommend a combination of commitment and consistency, and a handful of high-quality products and ingredients with healthy lifestyle choices to match.

And those high-quality products? Yep, you guessed it; hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and retinol.

Whether we have lockdown to thank or not, interest in skincare has seen tremendous growth. People are much more invested in protecting their skin than ever before and between the at-home DIY routines, new product launches, and essential must-have buys of the season, these three continue to pop-up in our newsfeeds – and for good reason. They’re our go-to for anyone looking to achieve beautiful glowing skin.

Why? Let’s explain…

Here at The Parlour Room we’re dedicated to helping you look and feel your best. While all our recommendations are curated by our team of in-house experts we may also earn affiliate commission if you choose purchase through our links.

The Benefits of Vitamin C

A powerful antioxidant, Vitamin C helps with the growth and repair of tissues in the body. When applied topically, it can help protect our skin against damaging free radicals which are produced when exposed to UV rays and pollution in the air. So it’s great for helping to fight the signs of aging and to prevent any wrinkles and fine lines.

Best applied as a serum for breakfast, Vitamin C is also one of the most effective products to help brighten and smooth out uneven skin tones which means it’s definitely one of our go-to’s when wanting to achieve THAT glow! How? Largely responsible for the synthesis of collagen in the skin, Vitamin C is a common ingredient widely praised for its accelerating abilities when it comes to the wound healing process, so it can help reduce any redness and inflammation. Honestly, what’s not to love!

The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

A substance we naturally produce in our bodies, hyaluronic acid helps keep our skin cells nice and hydrated. After the age of 25 however, our body’s natural supply starts to deplete so it’s important we incorporate it into our routine. Like giving your skin a really nice big glass of water, hyaluronic acid penetrates deep into the skin where it binds to our cells to help retain moisture.

It’s when our skin is dehydrated that we start to see wrinkles and fine lines most, so adding a few drops morning and night, before your moisturiser will help keep your skin looking fresh, where it works to plump out those fine lines, leaving you with that beautiful, soft dewy look. For radiant, glowing skin, this is definitely one product we highly recommend for instant results!

The Benefits of Retinol

Exfoliation is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. It means we’re able to get rid of the dead and damaged skin, to make way for the fresh layers underneath.

As a Vitamin A, retinol helps stimulate our natural skin cell turnover by waking up all the fibroblast cells which are in charge of your collagen and elastin production. Where our usual skin cell turnover is usually around 28 days, when using retinol, this speeds up to 21 days, which makes it a really powerful product.

If you haven’t used retinol before, because it does have so many active ingredients, it’s best to start small and build your tolerance to more frequent use and higher dosage. Try using a product with a low percentage first, between 0.3% – 0.5% once a week in your evening skincare routine, and see then how your skin reacts.

Note: If you are using a Vitamin A such as retinol, SPF is an absolute non-negotiable. Avoid using this before heading out into the sun AND stop using this for at least 3 days before your brow appointment. You could risk tearing the skin.
