Multi-Masking | The Latest Skincare Trend You Need To Try

19 November 2024

Words by The Parlour Room

There’s no disputing the commitment it takes to look after your skin and while face masks – the kind we like to wear dressed in a robe, drinking wine on a Friday night, posting selfies to Instagram – have easily had their minute, the latest skincare trend to hit the ground running is by far one of the most convenient and effective ways to deliver a concentrated dose of all kinds of goodness, for optimal results.

It’s called multi-masking.

How does it work?

The right mask can help breathe back life into dull and dehydrated skin, draw out impurities, remove excess oils as well as reduce inflammation and fine lines.

However, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Instead of using just one face mask to target a specific skin concern, multi-masking is the process of applying different products to different areas to treat a range of issues all at once.

The benefits?

It’s versatile and uniquely customisable for you

Everyone’s skin is different and reacts in different ways. One day you might be feeling oily, the next a little dry – multi-masking allows you to create a customisable solution to spot-treat specific concerns as they arise suited to your needs.

Extremely convenient

Short on time? Multi-masking can deliver high yielding results in record time. Whether you’re at home, in the air, at the desk or scrolling in bed, there’s also no reason you can’t multitask while you multi-mask and achieve immediate results.

It helps you relax

Stress can wreak havoc on our skin so taking the time to relax and slow down, applying a mask can prove beneficial in more ways than one… Not to mention it gives major spa feels in the comfort of your own home.

How to choose the right mask?

When choosing your mask always, always look at the ingredients first and remember when it comes to skincare, simplicity is key.

Depending on your specific concern, look for masks that include the following:

  • Oily skin – clay masks are typically your best bet to absorb excess oil

  • Dryness and dehydration – look for a cream or gel-based mask that has hyaluronic acid and B5

  • Pigmentation and scaring – anything with vitamin C

  • Wrinkles and fine lines – find something packed with hydrating properties and vitamin E

  • Acne & blemishes – while a clay mask will help, opt for a soothing mask with anti-inflammatories and vitamin E for scaring.

  • Flaky, patchy skin – a peel with gentle actives and a light exfoliant

Pro-tip: Always make sure you’ve washed your face and hands before application – you don’t want to allow any dirt to transfer onto clean skin.

If you’re a first-time masker, why not try the Minenssey Clay Mask Exploration Set with an exclusive 20% offer across the range using the code: TPR20* (see below for full terms & conditions).

How often should you use a face mask?

Your skin type will determine a lot about how you use face masks and specifically, what kind. However one of the many benefits of masking is that it allows you to be versatile, letting you treat your concerns on an as-needed basis.

You should always read the instructions and ingredients on the packaging first, however, once or twice a week is generally a good rule of thumb. Especially for masks which are quite gentle, for example, a cream or gel-based mask.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to draw out impurities, trying to combat oily or acne-prone skin with an exfoliating mask or peel (always consult with your therapist first), once a fortnight is recommended.

When using masks with more active ingredients you don’t want to overwork your skin and two weeks will give it time for any impurities to be drawn, and for the skin to then recover.
