Words by The Parlour RoomWe know a thing or two about tanning here at The Parlour Room and while we love booking ourselves in for one at the salon, sometimes we need a touch up at home.
We’ve put together some of our favourite products and inside advice to apply and maintain the perfect golden glow when tanning at home.
Compared to some other tans that can leave you looking more on the yellow/grey side, the green base in this gives a really nice glow. It’s easy to apply, dries quickly and has an amazing coconut smell.
Depending on how often you tan, you’ll find a lot of your usual skincare products will take the tan from your face first. So this is perfect for a quick weekly top-up. It gives off a nice, subtle healthy glow and your makeup will feel a bit better with a hint of colour coming in through behind it.
Perfect for when you want a lighter colour, this all vegan and natural, gradual tanning cream is a great addition in between your regular tanning appointments. It smells so good and it has a hint of colour in the cream so it is easy to see where you have applied.
Make sure you have a shower and remove any deodorant or perfume residue from your skin. We always recommend a light exfoliation beforehand as well, to ensure a smooth even base and to minimise any dry areas that can potentially lead to a patchy tan.
Any hair removal should be done at least 48 hours prior to tanning or the following day to ensure there is no irritation from the products.
With any dry areas such as your ankles, elbows & knees, apply a light layer of moisturiser about 20 minutes before you tan, and when you do get to these areas, apply sparingly.
Always use an application mitt to apply your tan at home. A mitt just ensures the product glides on the skin a lot smoother. For your face, an old makeup foundation brush works wonders. Be sure to give both a good clean after every use.
To ensure there are no white creases in your hands and feet, bend your fingers and toes to get in around those hard-to-get areas. Baby wipes are great to remove any stains on your feet or in the palms of your hands.
After you tan, lightly buff your nails to remove any tan residue. Alternatively, before you tan, apply a clear base coat to protect the nails from staining.
