The Ultimate Guide To A Flawless TPR Tan
10 March 2025
Words by The Parlour RoomIt’s also the easiest way to convince people you’ve just returned from six blissful weeks on the Amalfi Coast (…at least, that’s what we tell ourselves!). No matter how carefully you prepare for your tan, the outfit you choose for your appointment, your pre-tan routine, and how you care for it afterwards can make all the difference in achieving flawless results.
For our seasoned regulars, you likely have your go-to routine down. But if you’re newer to spray tans or simply need a refresher, we’ve put together a TPR-approved guide.
For obvious reasons, opt for loose, dark clothing. Tight-fitting garments can rub against your skin, leading to streaks or patches, while lighter colours may absorb excess bronzer. Matching lounge sets are a chic and comfortable option – just ensure the waistband isn’t too snug.
Slip into thongs or slides to avoid unwanted friction on your feet. If it’s raining, you can also wear loose bed socks to protect your tan while keeping cosy.
A button-up shirt is your best friend when it comes to post-tan dressing. Avoid pulling anything over your head to prevent disturbing your tan – better yet, opt for an oversized button-up that doubles as a breezy, effortless dress.
Where possible, avoid singlets – skin-on-skin contact (especially under the arms) can cause uneven patches. Instead, choose a lightweight tee or long-sleeve shirt made from breathable natural fabrics like cotton or linen.
Skip anything too restrictive, including tight waistbands, bra straps, and underwires. The last thing you want is imprints or patchiness when wearing a strappy dress or backless outfit.
If the forecast calls for rain, don’t forget an umbrella.
