A sun-safe solution to achieving a flawless tan all year round, a spray tan is also a convenient way to convince people you’ve just stepped off the plane from a 6 week holiday along the Amalfi coast (…least that’s what we keep telling ourselves)! Yet with all prep in the world, what you wear to your spray tan appointment can be the difference between a gorgeous all-over glow, or patchy-pitiful disaster.

For regulars, you’ve probably got this down pat, but for those who don’t frequent the salon as often, we’ve put together a list of TPR-approved recommendations when it comes to what you should wear to and from, your next spray tan.

How To Prep For A Spray Tan

  • Moisturise regularly in the week leading up to your appointment, you want your skin to be healthy and hydrated.

  • Exfoliate well to get rid of any dead skin cells, otherwise, the tan may lift prematurely as the skin starts to flake

  • Avoid any moisturiser, deodorant, or perfume the day of your appointment, you want an even application and if any of these are on your skin, it could lead to a patchy result.

For more helpful tips make sure you check out our comprehensive guide for event tanning here.

What To Wear To Your Spray Tan

Loose dark clothes

For obvious reasons, you want to make sure you wear something loose and preferably dark in colour. You don’t want something too tight that will disturb the tan and you don’t want it to stain either. Matchy-matchy sets like this are cute, just make sure the elastic is loose and wont leave a mark around your waist.

Waffle Tee

Cotton On

Button-ups

So much easier than trying to pull a top over your head and potentially disturbing your tan, a button-up just makes sense. Better yet, find an oversized shirt to wear as a dress that you use as your go-to each week. They’re comfy and easy to wash as well.

Black Button-Up Shirt

Cotton On

Tee or Long Sleeve

From our experience, where possible it’s best to avoid singlets. You don’t want any sweat rubbing off your tan from under your arms with that skin on skin contact. So instead, finding a tee or long sleeve that can act as almost a barrier will help prevent any patches from forming under the arm. Oh and try and go for natural fabrics over any synthetics, they’re much more breathable too.

Aere Oversized Shirt

The Iconic

No tight straps that will mark, or underwires

It goes without saying, avoid anything too tight. This includes things like straps, waistbands and even bras with underwires. You want to minimise any chance of a patchy tan, especially if you’re wearing something sexy and backless or has any cut outs where your skin is showing.

Long Dress

Cotton On

Wet weather, closed in shoes

If it’s wet, remember an umbrella (we always keep one handy in the car) and if you can, closed in shoes – you don’t want any water splashing up from the path onto your legs and causing any disruptions that will lead to an uneven tan.

We hope this helps and if you’re ever not sure or have a question we haven’t answered, feel free to email us at info@theparlourroom.com.au or follow us on socials @theparlourclovelly and send us a DM.
