The Best Beauty and Glam Trends of 2019

19 November 2024

Words by The Parlour Room

The world around us is constantly changing, and when it comes to beauty, it can be hard to keep up. With new innovative ideas, fresh brands and product drops every week, bombarding us with content, finding your way through the ‘trends’ puzzle isn’t easy. By the time we grasp the trends of this season, next seasons will already be upon us.

As beauty professionals, we see so many new styles, techniques, brands and looks. And while experimenting with beauty trends can be fun, sometimes they won’t work for everyone. Amidst the buzz of it all, there are some trends which are more significant than others.

Thankfully the year of 2019 has brought a sense of calm to the beauty world and we have loved some of this year’s beauty movements.

Here is a list of our favourite 2019 beauty trends.

Back to basics – Skin

2019 has been about embracing and enhancing our natural beauty. Instead of using a ‘bandaid’ formula of ‘foundation will fix that’, we are now seeing both brands and beauty professionals pushing their customers to focus on their ‘skin health’.

People are spending more and investing in skin products with scientifically proven results. So whether you are ‘skintellectual’ or simply wanting value for money, people are more concerned than ever before about what they are purchasing and putting on their skin.

TPR Founder and Director Nat Papadopoulos spoke with us about her favourite trend of the season:

“My favourite trend would be skin, as I am now 31 I have a new appreciation for my skin and want to do everything that I can to look after it. This year, we are seeing so many people investing in quality products for their skin. Everyone is becoming a lot more conscious of inner health effects on the skin and we are seeing a lot of edible beauty products like collagen as well as an increase in LED & Peels.”

If you are jumping on the skin bandwagon and don’t know where to start, brands which we stock in-store and use for our services like O Cosmedics and Tribecca Skin Tonics would be our first point of call.

Brow Lamination and Lash Lifts

Who knew these small patches of hair on our face were so important! From tweezing, waxing, microblading, tinting and threading (or going al natural) there are multiple ways we can groom our brows.

This innovative new trend restructures the brow hairs, keeping them set upwards so that they look fuller & neat with results lasting 6-8 weeks! It’s the perfect treatment for those whose eyebrows have a mind of their own (with hairs not going in the same direction) or gaps in the hair fullness. This amazing treatment gives you the long-lasting feathery, polished and ‘i woke up like this’ brows.

The Lash Lift is a no-hassle treatment which allows you to go without the hassle of mascara every day but still have a thicker, curled and stand out lashes. Forget clumping, heavy and irritating mascara. Click here to try this book your next appointment and try a lash lift or brow laminations for yourself!

Multi-Coloured nails!

Starting in Europe this trend has now made its way to Australia and we are seeing more and more people going for different colours on their nails, but sticking to a similar tone. There has also been an increase in nail art requests, thanks to social media trendsetters like Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner. And whilst nail art may not be for everyone, we are loving the mix in colour. We recommend trying playing around with your favourite nudes and pastels for spring.

Book your next nail appointment now to try out this new trend of the spring season.

Focus on Inner health

The health and beauty industries are becoming more aligned than ever before. With an abundance of information available to us online, people are becoming more conscious about what they put in and ON their bodies. It’s no secret that our diets and lifestyle affect our well-being, skin, hair, nails and overall glow.

Having a diet which is rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals are so important for fighting free radicals and oxidative stress (which cause the skin to age, as well as other health issues).

Supplementation is are on the rise. This is a trend we can certainly get around (on a need to supplement basis) !! We always want our clients to feel healthy and have a balanced lifestyle.

WATCH OUT FOR FADS! We advise being careful with supplementation. Our bodies can only absorb a certain amount of vitamins, nutrients and minerals each day. Any extra vitamins consumed will simply be a waste. So don’t waste your time and money on supplements if your diet is providing you with the goods. We recommend speaking with your doctor before supplementing.

The year of Mother Earth

2019 had been a huge year for climate change awareness. More and more brands are changing their ways and pushing for sustainable practices. Whether it’s recycled packaging, or cutting out the environmentally damaging chemicals, so many beauty brands are opting in on vegan, cruelty-free and environmentally friendly practices.

We proudly use brands like Tribeccca Skin tonics which is 100% organic and created WITHOUT synthetic ingredients, parabens, chemicals, preservatives, fragrance, petroleum and animal testing.

If you’re environmentally conscious, but still want to wear make-up and enjoy beauty treatments, we recommend researching to find brands which align with your values.

Bye-bye big makeup

Excessively big makeup is a thing of the past! 2019 has been about embracing natural beauty and getting back to basics. Thick, full coverage mats and heavy foundations (which gives your skin a dry appearance) are done and we can now embrace a softer, lighter and dewier look. Natural-looking, well-hydrated skin, with emphasis on naturally enhanced features (like a lash lift and brow lamination) is now the go-to.

The “less is more” trend applies to all makeup practices, with heavy-set eyes, lips, contouring and OTT bronzers (like a glow in the dark Oompa lumpa) are officially out of date. It’s all about minimum effort with maximum impact. Interested in trying the no make-up / less is more look? Click here!

Biggest Treatment Trend: Facials

Facials are definitely on the rise! For the first time, we are seeing people of all ages investing in their skin by having regular facials (as well as purchasing better quality products). Facials improve the skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity by counteracting the damaging effects of pollution, sun exposure and stress.

Our professional therapists work to cleanse, hydrate and rejuvenate your skin, with a wide variety of facials on offer such as the Vitamin C Facial. This powerful antioxidant treatment reduces inflammation and evens out your skin tone, reduces fine lines, boost collagen production and improve overall skin radiance. It will make your skin glow!

Whatever the trend may be, we always want our clients to find their own style and always remember beauty starts within.
